Who Is Hunter Schafer
Hunter Schafer is an American actress, model and artist who built her early public profile as a teenage LGBTQ+ activist before finding fame on television. She is best known for playing Jules Vaughn on HBO's Euphoria, a role that ran from the show's 2019 debut through its third and final season, which wrapped in 2026. Alongside acting, she has remained a working fashion model for major houses including Prada, Shiseido and Mugler, and she has picked up directing credits for a pair of music videos. Her Wikipedia entry and IMDb page remain the two most reliable running records of her credits and biography.
Early Life, Parents and Siblings
Schafer was born on December 31, 1998, in Trenton, New Jersey. Her father, Mac Schafer, worked as a pastor, and the family relocated several times between congregations in New Jersey, Arizona and finally Raleigh, North Carolina, where Hunter was raised alongside her mother, Katy Schafer. She is the oldest of four children, with two younger sisters and a younger brother, though the siblings have largely stayed out of the public eye and their names have not been widely reported.
Schafer has spoken candidly about her childhood, saying she began expressing femininity as early as toddlerhood. She came out to her parents in middle school, initially describing herself as a gay boy, before beginning to experience gender dysphoria in the years that followed. By ninth grade she had come out as a transgender girl and started her transition, later crediting online communities and YouTube transition videos with helping her understand her own identity during that period.
Education
Before becoming a public figure through modeling and television, Schafer attended Needham B. Broughton High School in Raleigh and later transferred to the North Carolina School of the Arts, where she completed its high school visual arts program. She was also named a semifinalist in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program in 2017. After graduating, she was accepted into Central Saint Martins, the renowned London arts college, intending to study clothing design with a focus on non-binary fashion. She ultimately chose not to enroll after being cast in Euphoria, a decision that redirected her path from fashion design school toward acting.
Height and Physical Appearance
Multiple public sources, including IMDb, consistently list Schafer's height at approximately 5 feet 10 inches, or 178 centimeters. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. Precise, verified figures for weight or body measurements are not something Schafer or her representatives have officially confirmed, and most numbers circulating online for those details come from unverified celebrity fact sites rather than primary sources, so they are best treated as estimates rather than confirmed data.
Career Overview
Schafer's career began in fashion rather than acting. She signed with Elite Model Management in 2017 after being noticed on Instagram, moved to Brooklyn, and quickly built a modeling resume with brands like Dior, Marc Jacobs, Converse, Gucci and Versace. Her transition to acting came almost by accident when she answered a casting call for transgender actresses for a new HBO pilot, a show that became Euphoria.
Modeling Career
Even after acting took over as her primary focus, Schafer never stepped away from modeling. She has walked for New York Fashion Week and international shows, and became the global brand ambassador for Shiseido Makeup in 2020 and for Prada in 2021. In 2023 she became the face of Mugler's Angel fragrance line, and in 2025 she starred in a horror themed short film directed by Nadia Lee Cohen to promote Gentle Monster's autumn eyewear campaign. Her fashion presence reached new heights at the 2026 Met Gala, where she wore a custom Prada gown modeled on Gustav Klimt's 1912 portrait Mäda Primavesi, one of the most talked about looks of the night. It was her third Met Gala appearance, following looks in 2021 and 2025.

Acting Breakthrough on Euphoria
Schafer's performance as Jules Vaughn on Euphoria, which premiered in 2019, made her an overnight star despite having no prior acting experience. Her portrayal earned her an MTV Movie and TV Award, a Dorian Award, and a Shorty Award, and she went on to co-write a special episode of the series focused entirely on Jules's inner life. Euphoria ran for three seasons, with its final episodes airing in 2026, closing out a show that had become one of HBO's most culturally significant dramas of its era.
Film Career and 2026 Projects
Beyond television, Schafer has built a growing film résumé. She played Tigris Snow in the 2023 Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, took her first lead film role in the 2024 horror movie Cuckoo opposite Dan Stevens, and appeared briefly in Yorgos Lanthimos's Kinds of Kindness the same year. In 2026 she starred as Hilda in David Lowery's A24 drama Mother Mary, and she is also part of the cast of Amazon's Blade Runner 2099 miniseries, playing a character named Cora, which entered post production in 2026.
Upcoming Roles Beyond 2026
Schafer has a notably full slate heading into the following years. She is set to appear in Tom Ford's adaptation of Anne Rice's novel Cry to Heaven, in Zach Strauss's directorial debut horror film Palette alongside Noomi Rapace, and in an as yet untitled horror project from director Arkasha Stevenson announced for A24 in late 2025. She is also lending her voice and likeness to Hideo Kojima's long anticipated horror video game OD. In 2025, reports suggested she was an early contender for Princess Zelda in Nintendo's live action Legend of Zelda film, though the role ultimately went to Bo Bragason, a decision that sparked considerable public debate about the casting process.

Net Worth in 2026
There is no official, verified figure for Hunter Schafer's net worth, since she has not disclosed her finances publicly. Various celebrity finance websites have published estimates ranging anywhere from around 3 million dollars to 8 million dollars as of 2025 and 2026, generally attributing her income to acting salaries, modeling contracts, and brand ambassador deals with companies like Prada and Mugler. Given the spread between these estimates and the lack of a primary source, readers should treat any specific number as an approximation rather than a confirmed figure.
Relationship and Dating History
Schafer confirmed in a 2024 interview with GQ that she had a five month relationship with Spanish singer Rosalía back in 2019, which had long been the subject of online speculation before either of them addressed it directly. The two have remained close, with Schafer describing Rosalía as family regardless of their romantic history.
Her more widely covered relationship was with her Euphoria co-star Dominic Fike, which became public in February 2022 after he posted a photo of the two of them on social media. The couple split around the middle of 2023, and Schafer later said on a podcast appearance that the relationship ended after she learned Fike had been unfaithful, an experience she said fundamentally changed her outlook on trust. As of April 2026, multiple entertainment outlets reported that Schafer was single. However, by September 2026 she and Fike were spotted together again at one of his shows and having dinner, fueling renewed speculation about whether the pair might be rekindling their relationship, though neither has confirmed anything beyond friendship.

Activism and Advocacy
Schafer's public life began well before her acting career, rooted in LGBTQ+ activism. In 2016, as a teenager, she became the youngest named plaintiff in Carcaño v. McCrory, a lawsuit filed by the ACLU and Lambda Legal challenging North Carolina's so called bathroom bill, which barred transgender people from using restrooms matching their gender identity. The lawsuit contributed to the law's eventual repeal, and her activism earned her a spot on Teen Vogue's 21 Under 21 list along with an interview with Hillary Clinton.
Her activism has continued well into her acting fame. In February 2024, she was among more than fifty people arrested at a Jewish Voice for Peace protest in New York City calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza war. In February 2025, she posted a widely shared TikTok video criticizing the Trump administration after her passport's gender marker was changed from female to male without her consent, tied to a federal executive order on gender designation. She said publicly that she felt it was important to keep track of how policies were shifting in the country, and her decision to speak out has since been cited by other trans activists challenging similar laws.
